Buying Guide

We know trying to find the right scooter can be a mind field specially with so many different makes and models out there with very similar specs. This is why we have decided to put this little handy guide together to help you along the way.

KERS Systems on Electric Scooters

KERS System

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinetic_energy_recovery_system

All our scooters have Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) that can regenerate energy under braking. When an owner is riding the scooter and moving forward, if he/she presses the brake handle or releases the power handle, the KERS will be turned on. The momentum during braking will be converted into electrical energy and sustain a longer drive.

Solid or Air filled wheels on electric scooters

Wheels

There are 2 options: Solid or Air.

Air tyres provide a much smoother ride than solid tyres; this is due to the natural shock absorption that you get from air tyres. Solid tyres have reduced natural shock absorption so the ride will be a little bumpier. When it comes down to it, the choice between air or solid tyres is all down to the pattern of use and the user themselves.

Suspension on electric scooters

Suspension

Some electric scooters have shock absorbers/suspension that can drastically improve riding on difficult terrain. But not all electric scooters have suspension.

Choosing between an electric scooter that has suspension and one without is one of the most important criteria after the battery. If you have a lot of bumps and rough terrains in your daily ride, you should consider getting an electric scooter with suspension.

Never choose an electric scooter with airless tires but without suspension. The experience won’t be pleasant.

Base or deck size on electric scooters

Base / Deck

Standing firm on the scooter!

There are 2 scooter deck options: the wide or narrow deck. Each one does the job depending on what you are looking for. My husband has got average sized feet and can fit on both options. The narrow deck scooter makes it easy to transport either by car, train or underground. If you need comfort due to longer journeys, easy cruising or extreme adventures then you will prefer the wider deck scooter.

Handlebars on electric scooters

Handle Bars

One of the biggest factors of how a Scooter will feel is the height and width of the bars. How do you decide which size you need? What difference does it make?

Height: As a general rule of thumb scooter bars should sit around hip to waist height when standing on the deck. This is a great balance of comfort and performance. If bars are too far above the waist then the rider will have more difficulty in controlling the scooter. If the bars are too low then it could be uncomfortable to ride. The range is all up to personal preference of riding style.

Width: Riders have different preferences when choosing a width. A good hint is to choose a bar with the same width as your shoulders. It's down to personal taste; think of what you prefer with a bike, or a car steering wheel, and it will be easier to make your choice.

What break system works best for me

Brake Leavers

There are three types of braking application:

Thumb – this braking system is electronic (KERS)

Lever – exactly the same as a pedal bike

Rear Foot – slow your scooter down by pressing on the rear wheel hub

Engine power and battery size

Motor

Just like cars, the larger the motor the more they drink (and pollute!) However, with a larger motor on an E scooter, the more they weigh. The battery is what mainly adds to the weight, which feeds the motor. The motor Is what determines the capability of your E Scooter (weight and speed).
